‘Title Links’ back on Blogger

Blogger title links in the post optionsIn the wake of last year’s redesign, some former features and options disappeared; among them the ability to link your post title to any link on the web rather than just pointing to the article URL. I missed this one the most, since it’s a must have if you want to effortlessly build a link blog. For a while I kept switching to the old dashboard just to be able to add a ‘title link’.

But it looks like the Blogger team is getting around to retrofitting some of these past features in the new design. After introducing the option to customize the article permalink while composing the post and later merging this into a single section together with ‘enclosure links’, Blogger added in the same section another field for the ‘Title Link’. Unlike custom permalinks which launched first in Blogger in Draft, this feature is already live on the regular dashboard, so you can start using it right away. Guess it’s time to go update some of my older posts…

  1. Hmm, would you mind further explaining for a relative newbie what editing a title link or enclosure link is actually doing?
    Thanks!?

    1. Enclosure links are used if you want to add podcasts for example. You link to the .mp3 recording and podcast apps of feed readers will recognize the file and offer options to play it for subscribers to the blog.
Title links replace the link to your blog post with a link to another web page, if you want to do a sort of 'link blog'. Or if you do a review you can link directly to the product you are reviewing.

  3. Any way to simply remove the link (i.e., make the post-title not a link, just plain text)? Cheers.

    1. Theoretically yes, but it's not as easy as this, it would require changes to the Blogger template. The change will probably be for the entire blog, not on a post-by-post basis.
